Title: Senior Thermal Engineer

  • Perform a variety of thermal design and development engineering work in the development of an operable space flight system capable of meeting requirements within imposed constraints including cost and schedule.
  • Provide thermal design, development and test engineering expertise for instrument, spacecraft and launch vehicle thermal control systems.
  • Perform computer aided modeling and analysis of thermal systems.
-Establish requirements based upon study and analysis of operational objectives and relationship with associated projects/programs.
Write and edit aerospace system requirements/technical specifications.
  • Analyze project requirements and provide information and instruction for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, designing, and modifying systems as appropriate.
  • Conduct special studies and investigations related to project activities and recommend changes as appropriate to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and meet changed or new requirements.
-Originate engineering plans, ideas, schemes and techniques, and direct the efforts of assigned personnel to achieve desired results and objectives.
-Perform or direct the performance of complex engineering assignments involved in the research, design, and development of an overall system comprising a number of subsystems.
  • Direct, manage, and perform environmental testing and qualification of aerospace thermal control systems.
-Evaluate engineering progress, developments and findings, to assure technical adequacy to meet operational demands and conformance with established standards and practices.
-Interact with senior management and senior customer representatives.
  • May supervise lower level engineers.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Position Scope: Identifies and resolves complex problems involving technical issues across multi-disciplines. Typically develops efficient methods to apply to problems. Communication typically occurs at all levels within or outside the organization.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, mathematics or physics from an accredited institution, and a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in thermal design and thermal analysis, which should include demonstrable experience in:
  • conceptual thermal design,
  • development of thermal analytical models,
  • development of thermal testing plans and detailed procedures, and
  • thermal analyses of spacecraft and instruments for ELV payloads.
-Minimum of ten years of demonstrable experience with thermal computer programs such as SINDA.
-Demonstrable team leadership experience for a team of at least 5 people.
  • Must be able to secure a Secret clearance.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
