Description ROLE SUMMARYThe Group Accounting Director is responsible for partnering with Accounting and Business Leaders and Accounting Shared Services to help ensure a strong financial control environment in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley, overseeing completion of regulatory filings; driving the implementation and maintenance of sound accounting policy in accordance with GAAP, Statutory and other regulatory requirements; and providing the delivery of quality reporting and analytics. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the monthly financial close process for Group Insurance business. Responsible for aspects of external reporting, including providing insightful root cause analysis based on business drivers. Help ensure accurate and concise internal manage reporting. Perform the role of the Finance/Accounting lead in business projects to help ensure that control, accuracy and performance objectives are met. Partner with finance to develop an annual premium plan. Responsible for review and approval of all regulatory filings (the content of filings). Partner with the finance and business leads to ensure a strong control environment established in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley and for identifying and managing associated risks. Manage the establishment and implementation of sound accounting policies, internal control procedures, and a detailed controllership plan in general accounting and financial reporting related to the Group Insurance business. Drive new product accounting activities. Responsible for driving the identification and resolution of emerging accounting issues. Lead SOC 1 audit process and drive resolution of control issues in partnership with business leaders. Qualifications B. S. in Accounting or Finance. CPA and/or MBA preferred. 7 - 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance. Expertise in technical accounting and internal control. At least 2 years in a management/supervisory position.
