Scope of Position (i. e. projects involved with and role within group): Emerging Innovation Group (EIG) is developing new products and processes for different markets. Ensuring the reliability of these innovative products and processes is key requirement. Reliability Scientist will report to overall Reliability manager and contribute to the reliability efforts in order to support innovative programs partner with Product and Process leaders and perform deep understanding of product performance requirements, manufacturing process and product design provide recommendations in order to improve the performances. a strong background in Fracture Mechanics or Mechanical Structure will help delivering the right support. leverage other reliability experts in order to execute reliability plans.
Day to Day Responsibilities: - Build fundamental understanding - Perform reliability studies for specific projects - Perform FMEA and reliability risk assessment - Develop reliability testing and characterization plans prioritized by reliability risk level - Recommend product design and process changes to improve reliability - Work with product development, manufacturing, commercial, and customers to understand and translate needs into reliability requirements - Translate applicable product standards/technical specification into reliability assessment - Define, execute, and communicate reliability assessments, testing, understanding - Owns Auto-Industry standards and specifications and translates them to reliability tests - Regular reporting to reliability manager in order to execute and meet the overall reliability strategy
Travel Requirements (please note if international): Limited travels could be required (depending on projects) either in Asia or Europe Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours/week
Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration): Master of Science degree with specialization in mechanical structure or fracture mechanics. PhD in mechanical structure or fracture mechanics. Minimum of 2+ years of experience in Automotive R&D; or quality organization.
Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess) Fracture mechanics or Mechanical structure Deep understanding of materials damage mechanisms Excellent written reporting (word and PowerPoint) Experimental skills (design new experiments and improve existing ones) Focused and rigorous application of scientific methods
Desired Skills (These are skills that would be nice for candidates to possess) Materials Science Failure Mode Analysis (Fractography) Creativity Background or past experience in glass and ceramics Past experience in characterization Sciences
Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership) Good communication skills Team work Comfortable with risk and rapid changes in program Comfortable with working on multiple projects Good vision of the project big picture
