ID178369Job TypeFull-timeTesla participates in the E-Verify ProgramWhat to ExpectTesla is seeking an experienced Machine Vision System Engineer to apply their experience in Machine Vision Inspection Systems to cutting-edge manufacturing equipment and high-speed manufacturing processes.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Tesla's cutting-edge battery cell manufacturing line and to apply innovative automation solutions to equipment for manufacturing of Tesla batteries.This role will invent, develop, scale up and optimize Machine Vision Inspection Systems and methods for battery manufacturing within a cross-functional engineering. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla, taking new battery designs from initial concept through into full production.

The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting.

The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join in highly motivated and capable team to make unbelieve things into reality.What You'll Do Integrate vision systems like machine vision, barcode reader, robotic vision and equipment vision monitoring systems for manufacturing line Learn vendor vision systems and adapt the systems to Tesla infrastructure Lead vision systems update, upgrade and replacement on all equipment Expertise with o Most common vision system on the market: Cognex, Keyence, Teledyne, SICK, Fanuc, KUKA, Dalsa, etc. o Vision systems setup characteristic: lightning, positioning, vibration, reflection, lens, etc.

o Vision systems application: Cognex InSight, LMI Technology, smart lens, smart light, Fanuc IRVision, KUKA visionTech, etc. o Connect vision systems to network infrastructure through different protocol like EtherCAT, Profinet and TPC/IP Debug and troubleshoot all visions systems deployment to maximize cycle time and uptime Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits Commission vision cameras for 2D/3D part inspection and guidance of machinery Participate in Tesla controls specification and standard creation, release to Vendor and quote technical evaluation Train and equip Sustaining Team to support vision systems after deployment into production Establish test plans and Vision Systems test plan execution What You'll Bring BS, MS or PhD in mechanical, electrical, computer science or another engineering discipline, with 4 to 7 years of Machine Vision Systems experience in automation equipment. Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards manufacturing process developmentSuperior practical knowledge in selection of cameras, lenses, optics, lighting, and other hardware for image capture and processing.

Strong analytical, mathematical, and statistical background and ability to understand and explain theory behind vision system algorithms.Ability to travel. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
