The salary range for this position is $133,046 - $174,192.We are looking for a Senior Optical Engineer to join the Optical and Laser Systems development team. As a Senior Optical Engineer, you'll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems.

We are seeking a Senior Optical Engineer to drive subsystem development efforts for up and coming products and to work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers and physicists.Responsibilities:Work closely with optical and opto-mechanical engineers to develop new optical subsystems and improve the performance of current subsystemsDefine, design and develop optical assemblies that take advantage of cutting-edge optical componentsWork with opto-mechanical engineers to iteratively develop fixtures and processes for precision alignment and assembly.Evaluate suitability of design solutions by performing detailed tolerance and stray light analysisWork with production engineers to develop manufacturing processesAssist production engineering in developing subsystem Verification and Validation testing.

You'd be a good fit with:Bachelor's degree in Optical Sciences or Optical Engineering with 3+ years experience or advanced degreeDemonstrated skills using optical design software tools such as Zemax, Code V and/or FREDGood understanding of single mode and multi-mode fiber opticsDemonstrated knowledge and experience in laser optics and micro opticsDemonstrated knowledge and experience in tolerancing analysis, Monte Carlo methods and stray light analysisSustained record of independent creative design activity and expertise with optical systems and optical subassembliesDemonstrated knowledge and creative abilities for novel design and specification of optical systems and subsystems from the component level up to the system levelDemonstrated understanding of optical engineering fundamentals and principles, specifically with a focus towards productionDemonstrated strong understanding of optical design, component specification, development, testing, and design for manufacturabilityYou'd be a great fit with:5+ years experience with optical or photonics designs with industry R&D experienceExpertise in SolidWorksExperience with cryogenic systems and optical elements in cryogenic environmentsExperience with high precision motion devices (piezos, flexure stages, etc.)Location:This position is located in our newest facility in Bothell, WA.Our HQ is located in College Park, Maryland and we are a 15 minute metro ride from Washington DC.

We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in the Seattle, Washington area. Depending on the position, you may be required to be located in Washington DC, Seattle, Washington or the Toronto, Canada area. However, IonQ will be expanding into additional geographies both domestically and internationally so don't let this stop you from applying.

The base pay component of the offer will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. The total compensation package may include other elements dependent on the position and level.
