Then keep reading - you've come to the right place.Role DescriptionThe Cell Engineering team within the Technology group at Form is multidisciplinary and focused on delivering qualified battery cell designs that meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines for Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system.We're hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer with deep expertise in sealing technologies to join our Cell Engineering Design team in Berkeley, CA.

In this role, you will be a subject matter expert in designing high reliability seals for challenging chemical environments. You will bring expertise in mechanical and polymeric sealing technologies and apply your knowledge to a variety of unique seal designs specific to Form Energy's iron-air battery product. You will collaborate closely with the reliability engineering team to develop test plans for demonstrating seal lifetime, as well as the manufacturing engineering team to ensure that seal designs are amenable to high volume mechanical assembly operations.

The ideal candidate possesses expertise in the mechanical design and process engineering of implementing challenging seals, such as in chemically aggressive environments, as well as a working knowledge of chemical degradation modes. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of scaling our multi-day energy storage system at Form and contributing to a sustainable future!What you'll do:Design and specify mechanical or polymeric seals for a variety of mechanical interfaces in Form Energy's iron-air battery productDevelop verification, validation, and reliability test plans to demonstrate seals meet functional and lifetime requirementsEngage in design-for-manufacturing outreach with our supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure seal designs are amenable to high volume battery productionIdentify mechanisms of seal failure, in collaboration with the reliability engineering; propose design mitigations to improve seal reliabilityWhat you'll bring:Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field; Bachelor's with 5+ years, or Master's with 3+ years with industry experienceExperience designing seals for implementation in high-volume production assembliesWorking knowledge of chemical and reliability failure modes associated with various sealing technologiesExcellent communicator across a range of engineering and business functionsAbility to thrive in a fast-paced startup environmentis a cornerstone of Form Energy's culture, and we make sure our compensation and benefits reflect that.
