Deputy General CounselSalary/CompensationBase Salary Range: $200,000+ depending upon experienceBonus Range: 30%+ of base salary (depending upon experience) and commensurate with performanceProfit Sharing: Up to 10% of base salary a yearSummary/ObjectivesThe Deputy General Counsel will be a key member of Evans' Legal Department and will be responsible for supporting the operations and growth of the Company by providing legal support and counsel in Evans' contract negotiations, project operations, regulatory compliance, and risk management. The Deputy General Counsel will interact with, and advice, employees working in constructions projects at all levels of the organization.

In addition, this position will serve as advisor to Senior Management in the day-to-day operations of Evans, serving as a strategic partner with the goal of minimizing risk while supporting the growth and profitability of the Company. This position requires expertise in contract and construction law and in-depth knowledge of the construction industry.ResponsibilitiesPartner with Project Teams to meet client expectations during the life cycle of a Project:Pre-award: Assist with review and response to RFPs, focusing mainly on legal items but, also, providing feedback and insight on non-legal matters.

When requested, attend and participate in Project interviews and presentations to potential clients.Post-award, Preconstruction: Draft, review, and negotiate prime contracts (Evans generally as the design-builder, construction manager, or general contractor) and associated documents.Construction: Work collaboratively with Project Team leadership to properly identify and analyze issues arising during construction to develop approaches for achieving results in the best interest of the Project and the Company.

This often includes providing support with preparation of contract-administration documents, both up and downstream, of a variety of types: notices (delay, claims, default, termination), change orders, change directives, certificates of substantial completions of unusual complexity, etc.In this phase of a Project, this role will also review and negotiate subcontracts, design agreements, purchase orders, and other contracts.Post-Construction: Counsel Project Teams on post-completion issues such as warranty work, insurance claims, lien claims from lower tier subcontractors or suppliers, and similar matters.

Work with, and oversee, outside counsel handling Evans' legal proceedings and/or claims including the development of strategy, recommendations to Senior Management, and budget.Assist with state and federal regulatory compliance.Aid in the design, development, and implementation of processes and procedures for running the Legal Department to drive results and advance business objectives.

Qualifications Juris Doctorate degree required from an ABA accredited law school.Candidate must be admitted to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in the United States.Minimum of ten (10) years of experience practicing construction law.

In-House Counsel experience strongly preferred.Must be proactive, resourceful, and capable of working and managing multiple work assignments simultaneously.Able to work effectively as part of a team and develop relationships at all levels of the organization.

This is critical for the success of this position at Evans.Confident in complex and difficult situations/negotiations.Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills with extreme attention to detail.

Comfortable working in a quickly changing environment with a high workload.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to quickly learn job-related technology applications.
