The Department of Surgery at the MetroHealth System, a major teaching affiliate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, is seeking a full time academic Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon at the Assistant Professor Level to join our Bariatric Surgery Program. Candidates should be a Board eligible or a Board-certified General Surgeon with fellowship training in Bariatric Surgery, a strong work ethic and commitment to high-quality care. New grads are encouraged to apply and will work under the direction and mentorship of the Program Director, Sergio Bardaro, MD, FACS, FASMBS, DABS-FPMBS.

The MetroHealth System is a county-owned, nationally recognized academic medical center and tertiary referral center with 731 licensed beds. MetroHealth is one of the largest, most comprehensive health care providers in Ohio with more than 700 primary care and specialty care physicians. All active staff physicians in the Department of Surgery and our Weight Loss Surgery and Weight Management Program, hold faculty appointments at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine as well as leadership positions in major academic associations. The MetroHealth system has its own General Surgery residency training program with 3 categorical residents per year. Our Weight Loss Surgery and Weight Management Program is a fully Certified MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center with Obesity Medicine Qualifications, and it was the first program to obtain such distinction in the State of Ohio.

Position Overview:

As a Bariatric Surgeon at MetroHealth, you will work under the direction and mentorship of the Program Director and will be responsible for surgical evaluation and management of morbid obesity and associated conditions. We are searching for an individual with a passion and empathy for caring for patients suffering from morbid obesity. Candidates should have the appropriate comprehensive skill set and a proactive, team-oriented approach to patient care. The ideal candidate will be an individual with a strong track record of delivering high-quality care, expertise in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy, and commitment to management of obesity and metabolic disease using a multi-disciplinary team approach.

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluation and management of patients suffering from morbid obesity and associated co-morbid conditions.

Commitment to support the growth of our Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Program, making a meaningful impact on patient care and impacting the health of the community.

Active participation in academic opportunities.

Engagement in multi-disciplinary care of patients suffering from morbid obesity and associated medical conditions.

Commitment to participate in a quality improvement program based on clinical practice guidelines and standards from the MBSAQIP.

Active involvement in the teaching and education of medical students, residents and fellows.

Commitment to participate in a collegial, collaborative and evidence-based treatment program.

Commitment to work under the direction and mentorship of our Program Director and the Department of Surgery leadership.

Commitment to obtain yearly CME credits to become a MBSAQIP verified surgeon.

Participate in peer review initiatives to enhance education and improve patient-centered care.

Qualifications:

Board eligible or Board-certified General Surgeon with fellowship training in Bariatric Surgery and laparoscopic, robotic and endoscopic experience.

An exemplary work ethic and an understanding of the importance of becoming a role model for our program and institution.

Commitment to education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.

An understanding of the importance of mentorship from the Program Director to enhance professional and academic growth, compassionate and high-quality patient care and technical expertise.
