Become a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA)

Based out of CBI Home Health/RJF/We Care Home Health Services, a division of CBI Health Group in Halifax, you will provide quality, patient-centred care to our clients. As a CCA, you will help patients with the activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, meal preparation and light household duties.

In cooperation with the Nova Scotia Health Authority, earn your CCA Certificate while working with CBI, through the RPL program.

What is the RPL Program? RPL - Recognition of Prior Learning

  • We offer an affordable payment plan to obtain your Continuing Care Assistant certificate;
  • Online self-directed learning allows you to complete your CCA Designation while remaining in the work force;
  • Qualifications include - minimum 3 years full time or 5 years part time experience in the health care industry and/or a certificate in the Health field.


As a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) in Training, you will:

  • Provide personal care to patients proactively and with compassion;
  • Assist with daily living activities, such as grooming, dressing and bathing;
  • Plan and prepare meals;
  • Help with patient mobility and transfers;
  • Perform light household duties, such as cleaning, laundry and washing dishes.

    To take on the role of Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) in Training, you must have:
  • Minimum 3 years of full time experience, or 5 years part time experience in a related role, or a certificate in a related health care field;
  • Current Standard CPR and First Aid Certificate;
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 12 months;
  • Availability to work mornings, evenings and every second weekend;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Proven interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Previous community experience is an asset.
