The Bank of Canada is Canada's Bank. We act as the fiscal agent for the Government of Canada, settle the daily transactions of major Canadian banks and their customers, manage our own accounts, and hold Canadian dollar securities for other central banks. We also provide banking services to the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Crown corporation that insures eligible Canadian bank deposits.

These operations go on quietly and efficiently behind the scenes, every day—typically around 550 transactions a day, valued at about $40 billion.

What you will do
We are seeking individuals who possess a background in software testing with strong interpersonal skills to join a Scrum Team of dedicated and innovative professionals.

Your contribution will be crucial in creating and updating critical financial, trading, and market collection systems, supporting major financial institutions, central banks and the citizens of Canada.

As a member of our Scrum team you will:

  • Collaborate with the Scrum Team to:
    • Understand the implementation of features by questioning how those features will handle various scenarios;
    • Develop acceptance criteria and test cases (automated or otherwise) for the product;
    • Create and contribute to mechanisms to enable easy testing of all code in a timely and effective manner;
    • Break down work to the smallest valuable and feasible increment;
    • Estimate capacity, velocity and throughput to enable accurate forecasting;
    • Help improve backlog clarity and maintenance processes;
    • Research, evaluate and make recommendations that support or improve Scrum Team processes;
    • Write the necessary amount of documentation to support the ongoing usage of the products developed by the Scrum Team;
  • Utilize your testing experience and expertise to:
    • Understand the testing framework and coach others in its usage;
    • Ensure that automated tests are performed at the correct level (unit, service or UI layer);
    • Design and deliver software testing workshops and practice sessions for other team members;
    • Inspire others to identify the motivating aspects of testing;
    • Research, evaluate and recommend tools and services that support or improve testing;

You have experience in the following:

  • Testing web applications;
  • Testing third-party applications and their integration with other systems;
  • Testing APIs;
  • Using Exploratory Testing techniques;
  • Developing and maintaining automated test scripts;
  • QA methods and best practices;

Nice-to-have

You have experience in the following:

  • Using source-control software to manage group software projects;
  • Building deployment software to manage test execution;
  • Working as a performance testing analyst;
  • Developing and maintaining performance test scripts
  • Analyzing customer needs and converting them to User Stories;
  • Modelling business processes;

Your education and experience
The position requires a bachelor's degree or three-year college diploma in computer science, engineering or related discipline with experience working with a team to validate the functionality of applications by producing (and executing) test cases (manual or otherwise) based on requirements, functional specifications or User stories or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $79,100 to $93,000 (job grade 16)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
