This is a great opportunity to become a trusted technical expert within Suncor's Project Support and Technical Specifications (PSTS) group. In this role, you will provide subject matter expertise to the enterprise in the piping discipline; specifically around piping line class and valve specifications. In addition, you will provide guidance and interpretation of Suncor's piping specifications to satisfy corporate requirements and industry standards while adapting to new and modified technologies.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Develop, maintain and update corporate piping standards in regards to piping material specifications (line classes), valve specifications, and other piping scope.
  • Ensure compliance and conformance with Suncor piping specifications, criteria, design philosophy, specifications and deliverables
  • Review engineering deliverables and approve technical decisions and deviations
  • Guide the selection of appropriate technologies, equipment, tools, materials and systems in the piping area for corporate projects
  • Support the Technically Approved Vendor (TAV) process by performing technical audits on selected vendors and providing recommendations into the approval process
  • Establish and ensure consistency in engineering quality across all corporate projects, resulting in a safe, operable and reliable design

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 12 years of experience providing advanced technical expertise in the development of piping specifications and designs, and familiarity with industry standards and suppliers
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Exceptional abilities in providing subject matter expert (SME) guidance on technical issues and direction to corporate projects, operations, reliability & maintenance
  • Demonstrated non-authoritative leadership abilities to provide guidance, set direction and make important decisions
  • Expert consulting and contracting skills in working with various clients
  • Originality and ingenuity to devise practical and economical solutions to business problems
  • The ability to develop positive working relations both internally and externally as well as being an effective team player
  • Alignment with our values

Preference for:

  • Professional Engineer registered with APEGA

Where you'll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 - 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
