The opportunity

The Strategy & Business Intelligence in the Liquids Pipelines Commercial Development team is evolving to meet the needs of our business. We have an opportunity located in Calgary, AB.

The Business Analyst will be charged with developing crude oil supply forecasts, perform market analysis and contribute to various aspects of the business including strategy. There will be much opportunity to learn the intricacies of the North American crude oil market by researching and monitoring crude oil market fundamentals that impact TC Energy's strategy.

This role reports to the Manager, Strategy & Business Intelligence in the Liquids Pipelines Commercial Development. The successful individual demonstrates skills and competencies in integral, judicious thinking as it pertains to the crude business.

What you'll do

  • Deliver analysis and convey crude oil market conditions, trends, pricing, and supply and demand regularly
  • Accountable for the long term forecast of oil sands and US shale oil production
  • Develop and maintain data sources to examine crude oil demand, supply and competitive forces that impact value and throughput in the short and long-term forecast period
  • Coordinate and prepare the annual strategic reports for the review of senior management
  • Understand government policy and legislation affecting the oil industry and midstream business
  • Maintain competitive and market intelligence information related to major firms in the oil industry
  • Liaise with the Mapping department to provide updated maps to the business and maintain a repository for Liquids Pipelines maps
  • Gather and compile background information to contribute to the development of materials or responses to key issues for internal teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or post-secondary education in Commerce, Business Administration, Economics or Computer Science
  • 6+ years of industry related experience
  • An understanding of the crude oil industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills for presenting timely and relevant information to all levels of organization
  • Ability to translate technical information to clearly written materials and presentations suitable for target audiences
  • Adaptability to changing priorities
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of crude oil market and trends
  • Robust quantitative, judicious reporting and presentation skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, Power BI, Accumap and graphics design is an asset
  • Detail oriented while also considering the larger, macro environment
